November 3, 2019

On Sunday November 3, 2019 approximately 100 people gathered for the Carroll County Fire Prevention Poster Awards Ceremony at the Carroll County Public Safety Training Center. The Fire Prevention Poster Contest is open to all Elementary Schools within the county to first, third, and fifth graders. The contest is held during fire prevention week and then picked up the following week. A topic is assigned to each grade to assist them create their poster. First grade has the topic of dialing 911, third graders smoke alarms, and fifth graders have Exit drills in the home. Poster submissions are judged by the Carroll County Miss Fire Prevention and Junior Miss Fire Prevention Ambassadors ranging in age from 11 years old to 20 years old. This year we had 6 of the 23 schools participate with 54 students being recognized. Recognition is determined based on placing first, second, or third for each school at each grade level and then overall in the county for each grade. This year over half of the students attended to receive a certificate and a filled pencil pouch. For those who placed third overall for each grade received a drawstring bag, second place received the drawstring bag and a water bottle, and first place received the previous items and a fire department related puzzle that can also be used as a game. The Public Education Committee would like to thank the Elementary teachers who took time out of their busy schedules to allow the students participate. Below are just a few examples of the winning posters from this year’s contest.
