Get Ready to Ride is a training program to instruct and train the new members that we find who are interested in becoming emergency service providers. Class schedules are designed to provide new members with a basic level of training and understanding as they begin their path toward becoming an emergency services provider in a timely manner. The basic training that will be received during the course will help new members start working toward becoming an active service provider.

This course covers all the basic classes, training, experiences and administrative items that every new member must accomplish, but in the past could take a year or more to do without the coordinated effort. Students can sign up for one or all components of the program. The classes for this program include Introduction to Emergency Services and the Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP), National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses, HIPAA and Airborne/Bloodborne Pathogens, Maryland Fire & Rescue Institute (MFRI) Personal Protective Equipment and SCBA, CPR and automatic external defibrillator (AED), 800MHz radio system and Mobile Data Terminals, and MFRI Hazardous Materials.

This program has been developed to allow new volunteers to complete several of the prerequisites for MFRI classes so that they can begin Firefighter I or Emergency Medical Technician in the fall as opposed to having to wait until the spring. It also introduces them to emergency services with peers at the same level and knowledge as theirs, as well as introduces them to policies, procedures, and requirements specific to Carroll County.
