Nearly everyone knows a firefighter. They are our family, friends, and co-workers. They respond to a stranger’s call for help without hesitation and serve with pride and compassion. They are our local heroes.

Every October, a grateful Nation honors its fallen fire service heroes during the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend—the official national tribute to those firefighters who died in the line of duty during the previous year. As in years past, we are asking landmarks, buildings, families, and fire departments across the country to participate in “Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters.”

YOU can join some of the most iconic buildings and bridges as well as hundreds of fire departments and communities in helping us honor our fallen heroes. As an example, One World Trade Center in New York City, the Willis Tower in Chicago, and Walt Disney Studios in Burbank have joined us to Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters.

A Candlelight Service will be held on Saturday, October 8th for the families. Lighting your department and community in red on the evening of October 8th, or any time during that week, would be an additional symbol of support and comfort to the families whose loved ones are being remembered.

About the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF)
The United States Congress created the NFFF to lead a nationwide effort to remember America's fallen firefighters. Since 1992, the non-profit foundation has developed and expanded programs to honor fallen fire heroes and assist their families and co-workers. The NFFF also works with the fire service to help prevent and reduce line-of-duty deaths and injuries. For more information on the Foundation and its programs, please visit www.firehero.org.
