On June 15, 1972, Carroll County graduated its FIRST Emergency Medical Technician Class.

The class was conducted at Carroll County General Hospital (now Carroll Hospital Center) and was taught by MSP Sgt. Pat Bucher teaching on behalf of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and the University of Maryland Fire Service Extension (now Maryland Fire Rescue Institute).

Twenty-two members of the volunteer fire service participated in the training and successfully completed the program. Class members were from Westminster, Taneytown, Sykesville, Union Bridge and Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Companies.

Congratulations to these starters and the thousands since that help keep our communities safe.
